Ever had an injury before? Were you pissed off? Have you ever thought of giving up? For athletes like me, it's just another usual thing that may happen during an exciting game or event in your life that became a tragic one and could have ruined your whole athletic lifestyle. Whether you are playing for the neighborhood championship or the NBA title, you can get injured.
I started playing basketball since I was a kid and my whole career has been pretty tough. This particular sport has brought many challenges to me and really tested my motivation and strife for playing. I had the chance to join the varsity team when I was in high school, got scolded during training camps, played for the intramurals, got fouled, got fouled out, made crucial free throws, missed free throws, missed and made shots and lastly the one thing that really messed up my time and reason for playing: I got injured for several times.
Last month I injured my right ankle because I accidentally landed on a player's shoe which made my ankle clicked and bended awkwardly ( just like the first picture above). At that moment, I felt numb and I sat on the floor pretending that I was not seriously hurt but the people saw the pain through my eyes and my face trying to tell them to help me stand up and sit me down somewhere comfortable and let me catch my breath. I also realized that it was the same accident that happened to me before and it was actually the same ankle that was injured two years ago.
After the game, I asked someone else to buy an ice for me and help me walk my way home. When we arrived, I hurriedly took off my shoe and noticed that my ankle was swollen and immediately told my mom about the incident and apparently, she got mad because that day was supposed to be my preparation for the opening of classes for the next semester and obviously I couldn't go to school.
Few hours later, my parents decided to take me to the hospital and let the doctor see if there was a broken bone, fracture or whatsoever. Fortunately, there was none and the doctor said that there was just a sprained ankle. I felt really bad for myself because the injury has made my parents pay for my own stupid fault. Yes it was an accident but I couldn't blame the accident for how much my parents spent that night.
Injuries sometimes give me doubts on whether I should continue playing or just simply quit to avoid the danger behind basketball. My parents are also against it too. I understand the fact that they are just worried about me but I'm just the type of person that does not want to give up in any situations that I know somehow it can be fixed until everything goes fine once again. I just want to say that giving up is not the solution and it is also difficult to leave behind something you really love and has been attached to you ever since your childhood.
People might say that I'm weak, fragile, and prone to injuries but being one doesn't make me stop from doing what I really love to do.
